The crisis of representative democracy in the UK, confirmed in the historic low turn-out at the recent general election amid deep levels of distrust of mainstream politics, puts the creation of Assemblies firmly on the agenda.
The counter-protests against racist rioters showed how people will organise independently of the state to defend their communities.
Thereโs a variety of views about what Assemblies could and should do. Some want them to advise the government, others want their recommendations accepted in advance while others see them as a route to people power.
Weโre organising an open discussion and debate about Assemblies โ what they are, what they can become.
